Description
This French Army helmet is of the 1930's period. By WWII (1940) they were already replaced by steel versions. This leather crash helmet was worn by Motorcyclists/Dispatch Riders (as is referenced in "Elmetti-Helmets" by Paolo Marzetts, pg 126 No. 31.40 for a similar all metal version). Inside is maker marked "Balchoc". There are also the remnents of 2 other French language safety tags inside. Inside condition is excellent with only 2 leather flaps showing a little damage. Drawstring is present and intact. All leather is subtle and of high glove-like quality. Exterior is very good with only scuffing to the superior quality leather. Has both nickle chin straps with buckles, however the cross strap is missing (easy to replace). Visor is soft and in good shape. Note: Pilot's and Tanker's leather crash helmets of the period are today tremendously expensive. Such pricing is now carrying over into the motorcyclist/dispatch riders category as well. This makes this helmet quite reasonably priced.
