Description
1941 to the 1945 period, Romanian Army, Service Dress Uniform, belonging to a Motorized, Colonel, serving in the 1st Guards Division. There is very little information available concerning Romanian pre and war-time Officer's dress uniforms. The little data that is available is mostly incomplete and/or conflicting. This makes the exact identification of this uniform impossible. However, there are some clues to help properly identify this very rare uniform.
The color and style of uniform are of the pre to World War II period. The buttons are pre-war, made in Paris types. Also the buttons have the flaming bomb motif for motorized units. The collar braid and epaulettes are known to be for a full Colonel. Inside the right shoulder sleeve area are the inked unit markings "UGI", which is believed to be for the 1st Guards Division, or perhaps for the 1st Guards Regiment. The red color found on the collar and epaulettes is believed to indicate Artillery service.
Condition - Very Good to Excellent
Comments from the Curator:
The data sheet enclosed with this uniform correctly matches the 1st Guards Division with the 1st and 2nd Guards Artillery Regiments, however the "Motorized" style buttons seem to conflict with this. Unit more information becomes available on Romanian Officer's uniforms an exact identification is not possible. In any event, a Colonel in an elite Romanian "Guards" unit makes this uniform extremely rare and desirable.
