1940's (?) Period, U.S., Woman's, Off White Color, Long Line Style, Girdle/Corset

This long line girdle/corset is believed to date in the 1940's period, however it may date a little earlier, or later than that. This woman's girdle/corset is of the off white color, that is now aged to an almost light yellow color. This girdle/corset is of the long line design that includes elasticized panty leg cuffs. There is also a frontal metal zipper and no frontal or rear lacing. There are no zipper hallmarks present. There is no boning, however it is heavily reinforced throughout. The cloth material that it is constructed out of is fairly light weight and elasticized, suggesting that this girdle/corset was intended for daily wear. There are no adjustable garters at the bottom. The condition of this undergarment is conservatively rated in a LOW EXCELLENT CONDITION. It has much age yellowing, and none of the usual gamut of snags, stains, small tears, etc. It does have a few minor lose threads. However, this girdle/corset is still overall quite a presentable piece and should rate of a higher quality rating than listed above. On the inside of this garment can be found a white and blue color label that reads: "Slimmetry 40B". There is a 2nd, "ILGWU" tag found next to it that is for the "International Lady's Garment Workers Union". As with all of the museum's garments that are being made available, none are being sold to wear as they are all considered as historical antique garments.
Comments from the Curator:
Antique girdles/corsets are quite rare to find today. This is primarily because by the 1940's period not many women still wore them for daily use, except perhaps for some older women who still preferred the older styles. Also, when they were worn, they were worn until they were no longer intact from hard usage and then had to be discarded. We have collected vintage corsets, stockings, and high heels for over 38 years, and have a fairly good idea as what to expect when inspecting such rare vintage specimens. We have endeavored to describe this long line girdle/corset as accurate as is possible, however the final determination on any of the facts remains that of the future buyer. This girdle/corset is not of the more common low waist line girdle style as it includes a built in bra. It has little in the way of fine detailing that suggests that it was for utilitarian or daily use, and additionally not of great expense. It would make a perfect undergarment for any working girl's and/or for a older woman's mannequin ensemble. It would be impossible to upgrade this fine garment. Priced right for the collector.
