WWII Period, US, Photo Of A Civilian Woman Wearing An Army Airborne Aerial Gunner Badge

This photograph is of the WWII period. It is of US origin. The museum placed this photograph in a modern glass frame after it was carefully mounted on acid free paper. No pins holes were punched into the photo when it was mounted as most amateur framers do these days. This photo is in color. It may have been colorized by the photographer or an artist who added the colorized painting as an enhancement, as many black and white photos were done back then. Most likely this photograph originated as a color photo. We purchased this magnificent photograph in 2004 from a local flea market because of it's striking facial features and vivid colors.
Just look at this beautiful young woman's blue eyes, and it just makes one melt! The artist her was a master of his/her art form. Look carefully and you can still see that each eyelash was individually hand painted in place....WOW! This feature would have been invisible from a camera's viewpoint, so the artist diligently recreated each by hand paint to recreate the beauty of this woman. Also note a very unusual feature in that the artist hand painted the young lady's lips with black lip liner before he repainted in her lips in a deep red color lipstick. This lip lining in black procedure is an old makeup artist's trick that was employed to make a woman's lips look much more noticeable in low light conditions. All that we can say is that this artist/photographer was an expert in his/her trade. The magnificent results speak for themselves. The winged insignia found pinned to her jacket appears to be that of a US Army Air Force Airborne Aerial Gunner Badge. This badge was also worn by navigators, bombardiers, and gunners alike.
